Lighting

Lighting

LED lighting has become an increasingly popular option for lighting. It has been used for a variety of applications including in homes, offices, and even vehicles.

One of the main advantages of using LED lights is their low operating costs compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.

You’re also going to get a long lifespan from these bulbs. They typically last for 50,000 hours compared with only 2,500 hours for traditional incandescent bulbs.

Moreover, LED lights don’t generate much heat when they’re operating normally.

And the best part is that you can really create some cool lighting effects with LED lights.

LED lighting is available in all shapes and sizes and will cost anywhere from $10 to $100 or more if you’re really going all out using Philips Hue lighting in your gaming room (it can produce some amazing visual effects!).

Storage & Fixtures

When you’re thinking about how you’re going to set up your gaming room, storage will be one of the first things that comes to mind.

To make sure your gaming room has enough storage, make sure you have enough shelving, filing systems, bins, totes, and containers. Mount items on the wall and take advantage of multifunctional furniture to save space.

Fortunately, office storage doesn’t have to be complicated. You can create a system that fits your needs and works with your workflow. When it comes to storage, there are several basic principles you should follow regardless of the space in where you work.

  • Don’t hold onto things you don’t need
  • Keep your gaming area free from clutter
  • Make your storage solutions work for you
  • Label everything
  • Look at wall space as well as floor space
  • Reuse items when you can

There are so many creative options when it comes to shelving and storage, so it’s really hard to put a price on this part.

You could spend $50 at Home Depot to create your own shelving, $100 at IKEA for a bookcase, or you could spend hundreds to create a modular storage system.

Decorations

Decorations

To make your gaming room the best it can be you have to have some really cool stuff for your walls.

When I first started my YouTube channel, I immediately noticed how boring my office looked in the backgrounds of my videos.

When I saw some really cool office setups, I knew I had a lot of work to do if I was going to create something awesome.

The best part about it though, was that it wasn’t expensive at all.

I bought posters for $20 on Amazon.

I found some old-style signage at Hobby Lobby for $5-$15.

And I found some really cool lighting that I use too.

I also have some sports memorabilia in my office – a huge framed image of Doak Campbell stadium, a signed football from Bobby Bowden and more.

When it comes to decorating your gaming room the sky is the limit.

Technology

Technology

In this post we’re not going to cover the cost of gaming consoles or gaming PCs. You probably already have a pretty good idea what those things cost, and they’re really not part of the gaming room conversion & setup cost.

TVs

One of the things that we see so often in gaming room setups is that, not only does it serve as your battle station for your gaming activities, but it also becomes a home theater of sorts where you can watch Netflix & YouTube videos, watch movies and more.

A good quality 4k HDTV is going to cost around $1,500 – $2,000. If you want an even higher end TV with better picture quality, then you’ll need to spend at least $3,000 – $5,000.

The biggest thing about large TVs is that they are very big, bulky items. They don’t fit well in most small rooms. So unless you’ve got a large living room, dining room, or den, then going for a smaller screen size will not only fit your space better but also be easier on your wallet.

Depending on where you want to place your TV you may need to add an electrical outlet. That can be a pricey modification because you’ll need to hire an electrician to do this unless you’ve got those skills yourself and that could cost anywhere between $200 to $500 or more depending on the work that would need to be done.

Add in another $50-$100 for the mounting hardware you’ll need and you’re good to go.

Speakers & Audio

Quality audio is incredibly important, especially if you’re planning on setting up an immersive experience.

Your gaming sessions will likely be spent with your headphones on but for those times when you’re watching movies or using your gaming room for work there are times you might want to play some music.

You’ll need speakers for that. And you’ll need them to sound great.

High quality speakers are manufactured by brands like Bose, JBL, and Klipsch among others.

A good set of speakers for your gaming room setup will cost somewhere around $150 for desktop or bookshelf speakers to $500 or more if you’re looking for a surround sound, multi-speaker setup.

Are you doing any live streaming?

Then you’re going to need the gear to do it right.

To get the basics in place that means that you’ll need:

  • A good condenser mic: $200+
  • A good video camera: $500+
  • A tripod: $50
  • Additional lighting: $50-$100
  • Soundproofing for your gaming room: ~$1 per square foot

Furniture

Furniture

If you’re converting an existing room from a regular bedroom to a gaming room then there are two essential pieces of furniture you’ll need.

Gaming desk

At the center of your gaming setup is your desk. It’s where you’ll sit while playing games or working on projects. This is the central hub for your Remodel Reality here where you’ll keep your controllers, gaming mouse, mechanical keyboard, etc.

The layout of the space you’re in will make all the difference when it comes to what type of desk you use.

If your space is awkwardly put together, like mine is, there are only certain types of desk that will fit in the space.

However, depending on what type of desk you’re getting, whether it’s a dedicated gaming desk, or a more home office oriented adjustable standing desk, you’ve got lots of good options.

The desk for your gaming room will cost between ~$150 to $2000 or more depending on what you get.

Gaming chair

A quality chair for your gaming room is absolutely essential.

There are gaming chairs that come with speakers, headphone outputs, and even steering wheel mounts.

Gaming chairs mostly come with a bucket seat design, raised front lip, and a fixed headrest. Bucket seat design and raised front look are used in race cars to limit side movement and elevate legs to give easy access to the pedals.

They’re tailor-made to provide a great experience to the gamers during short and long gaming hours.

Or you can go for a traditional ergonomic office chair if a gaming chair doesn’t fit your style.

The most important quality, regardless of whether you get a gaming chair or something like a Herman Miller Aeron chair, is that it’s ergonomic and will adequately support your body, whether you’re gaming, live-streaming, or working.

A gaming chair starts at around $200 and goes up from there. And a high quality ergonomic chair, depending on the brand, can run from $200 to $1000 or more.
